Dilma Da Silva, head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, will present two lectures as part of the CSU ISTeC Distinguished Lecture Series on campus March 7-8.
Da Silva will discuss “Cloud Computing: The Dreams and the Nightmares,” March 7 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Morgan Library Event Hall. At 10:30 a.m., a reception with refreshments will precede this lecture.
During her second lecture March 8, Da Silva will discuss “Cloud Services for the Internet of Things” from 11 a.m. to noon in Room 130 in the Computer Science Building.
In her first lecture, Da Silva will discuss the evolution of cloud technology from a buzzword to an efficient way of delivering computing services. She will also identify some of the main challenges that are yet to be resolved. Her second lecture will address how experimental testbeds may be useful in determining the trade-offs between cloud computing and fog computing.
Da Silva’s primary research interests consist of cloud computing, operating systems, distributed computing, and high-end computing. She is an Association for Computing Machinery Distinguished Scientist, a member on the board for the Computer Research Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in Computing Research, and a co-founder of the Latinas in Computing group.
The ISTeC Distinguished Lecture series is presented in conjunction with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Science.
ISTeC is a university-wide organization for promoting, facilitating, and enhancing CSU’s research, education, and outreach activities relating to the application of computer, communication, and information systems.
